ARTIST STATEMENT

Nature invites me to slow down and notice what might otherwise be overlooked: a changing landscape, an expressive face, or the play of light across the surface. Color, form, and texture lead me into the work, whether I am drawing, painting on canvas, constructing sets for a theater production, working outdoors or creating at the scale of a mural. My approach moves between figurative and impressionistic styles, guided by the character of each subject.

In portraiture, I seek not only a physical likeness but also a sense of the sitter’s personality. When painting plein air, I am drawn to the fleeting quality of natural light and the challenge of responding as it changes from one minute to the next.

Years of working with children in schools and youth theater have helped me retain the wonder I felt as a boy…gazing at clouds, discovering animals in their shapes, and imagining adventure. I hope my work encourages viewers to pause, look closely, and find their own personal meaning in what they see.
